Flynderupgård
Historic country estate near Espergærde with a working farm, old domestic animal breeds, gardens, and the exhibition "Anno 1920"; free admission.
Over het museum
The name Flynderupgård goes back to a vanished village that belonged to Esrum Monastery and is mentioned as early as the 13th century. After the Reformation in 1536, the farm fell to the king, who about 30 years later handed it over to the Helsingør Almindelige Hospital. In 1803 the hospital sold its landholdings, and Consul Simon Borserondo became the first private owner.
The present main building with side wings was built by High Court attorney Frederik Ferdinand Hansen from 1835 to 1839. Under changing owners – including manufacturer Emil Falck, who expanded the garden – Flynderupgård remained a country retreat where managers ran the farming. Wholesale coffee merchant Rasmussen had large farm buildings with stables built from 1915 and the main house modernized. From 1929 the estate served the director of Palladium Film as a film set; during World War II, raw film stock was stored in a stone grotto on the grounds.
In 1978 Helsingør Kommune bought the estate, and in 1994 an open-air cultural center was added to the existing museum. Today the exhibition "Anno 1920" in the main house shows how things might have looked on the estate in the 1920s, and the Længen tells the history of the estate. Old Danish domestic animal breeds, an ornamental garden restored to its 1920s state, kitchen gardens, and a historic dining house bring the estate to life. Flynderupgård is also the municipality's gateway to the national park Kongernes Nordsjælland.
