Over het museum

The founder, Annette Hage, began collecting everyday objects and clothing that others threw away in the early 1960s, at the age of twelve. At 16, in 1968, she opened the shop BAZAR XLI, which sold and rented out clothing and props from the 20th century – but above all the collection kept growing, because she was reluctant to part with the pieces.

Tidens Samling opened as a museum in 1992. Since 2004 her daughter Cæcilie Ning Hage has run the museum; according to the museum, she owns the largest private collection of historical clothing and objects in the Nordic countries. The museum is a private institution with an operating subsidy from Odense Kommune and is run by a small team and around 40 volunteers.

The permanent exhibition on the fourth floor of the Kulturmaskinen at Brandts Klædefabrik shows nine typical living rooms from the decade around 1900 to the 1990s. Visitors may sit down, open drawers, read books, and try on clothes in a dress-up wardrobe; clothing and decorations change with the seasons and festivities. For blind and visually impaired guests there are guide lines and audio narrations, for which the museum received the City of Odense's Disability Award in 2015. Costumes and props from the collection can also be seen in more than 70 film and television productions, including the series "Badehotellet".
