Over het museum

It all began with two private collections: Ludwigshafen chemist Wolfgang Immel and druggist Udo Zink had each gathered around 400 photographic and film devices and were looking for space to show them to the public. The town of Deidesheim offered them a neglected part of the Bürgerhospitalstiftung building opposite the Old Town Hall. Volunteers from the sponsoring association converted the building over a period of years with support from the town, the foundation, the state and donors.

On December 8, 1990, the Museum for Film and Photographic Technology opened. As space soon ran short, the exhibition area was expanded; from July 2000 the museum was called the German Film and Photographic Technology Museum. Today it goes by the name 3F Museum, with the three Fs standing for photography, film and television (Foto, Film, Fernsehen).

On roughly 400 square meters and two floors, the museum displays more than 5,500 exhibits. The second floor covers photography from the pioneers of the 19th century to the digital camera; the first floor covers film and projection technology from the magic lantern to the video projector, as well as television technology with studio cameras and video systems. The sponsoring association runs the museum on a volunteer basis, advises visitors on old devices and organizes photo and film fairs in the region.
