Schmalspurbahnmuseum „Historischer Lokschuppen Wilsdruff“
Volunteer-run museum in the locomotive shed of the former narrow-gauge station of Wilsdruff with cars, draisines, and a model railway.
Over het museum
Wilsdruff got a rail connection in 1886 via a narrow-gauge railway from Freital-Potschappel. In the following decades a network of over 100 kilometers of 750-millimeter-gauge line grew around the town, joined together by 1923 and making Wilsdruff a junction. In 1908/09 the station was considerably expanded, and on the south side a new four-stall locomotive shed was built, to which two more stalls were added in 1927.
As traffic declined, the station lost importance: in 1966 the line to Meißen was closed, on May 28, 1972, the last passenger train ran to Freital, and a year later the tracks disappeared. Afterward, until 1996, cylinder heads for diesel locomotives were refurbished in the locomotive shed.
The IG Verkehrsgeschichte Wilsdruff, founded in 1984, has looked after the relics of the narrow-gauge network for decades. After the town of Wilsdruff acquired the station grounds in 2000, the town and associations developed a usage concept. With funding from the European Union, the locomotive shed and station building were converted from 2006, and the track facilities followed in 2009; the complex opened as part of the town's 750th anniversary celebration. Today the volunteer-run museum shows the history of the Wilsdruff network with original artifacts, historic cars, a steam locomotive, a collection of draisines, and a model railway layout.
