Drandorfhof
Former manor estate in Schlieben with a local history museum, a fairy tale exhibition, and a large collection of historic agricultural machinery; free admission.
Over het museum
The Drandorfhof was the ancestral seat of the now extinct noble family von Drandorf, which held land mainly in the Saxon Kurkreis. The best-known member is Johann von Drandorf, born in Schlieben, a pre-Reformation critic of the church who was burned as a heretic in Heidelberg in 1425.
The present farm complex dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. The manor house, stable buildings, and a massive granary enclose a four-sided courtyard. The converted sheep barn and the bakery now serve as event rooms, there are holiday apartments in the front building, and the tourist information office of the Schliebener Land is also based here.
The local history museum in the estate's buildings shows, among other things, a model pharmacy, a bakery, regional costumes, and a farmhouse parlor as it looked around a hundred years ago. The granary holds an extensive collection of several thousand historic agricultural implements, supplemented by exhibits on regional viticulture. Since spring 2019, a fairy tale exhibition, previously shown in Lebusa, has also been set up on the upper floor of the granary: with handmade figures, it re-creates about 40 fairy tales.
