Friedrich-Wilhelm-Weber-Museum
Birthplace of the poet Friedrich Wilhelm Weber ("Dreizehnlinden") in Bad Driburg-Alhausen with an exhibition on his life and work; visits by appointment.
Over het museum
The listed four-post farmhouse (Vierständer-Ackerbürgerhaus) in the center of Alhausen was built in 1793 and acquired by the Weber family in 1806. Friedrich Wilhelm Weber was born here in 1813; he worked as a physician, politician and poet and, with the verse epic "Dreizehnlinden" (1878), became one of the most widely read Westphalian authors of his time.
Around 1952, friends of the poet joined together in an association from which the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Weber-Gesellschaft emerged. In 1953 it set up a memorial in the birthplace. After the town of Bad Driburg took over the building in 1973, the museum could be significantly expanded.
For the 50th anniversary in 2003 and the epic's anniversary in 2008, the house was renovated, the exhibition enlarged and a herb garden created, in which, among other plants, calamus, a medicinal plant used by Weber, grows. For the poet's 200th birthday in 2013, two rooms with writings and autographs were added. In the former stables and the converted grain loft, the museum shows paintings on "Dreizehnlinden", stages of Weber's life, letters to his friend Hüffer and his translations of Scandinavian literature.
