Heimatmuseum Epfenbach
Volunteer-run local history museum in the half-timbered Fronhof of 1718 in Epfenbach, showing living and working in the village around 1900.
Over het museum
A Fronhof (manorial farmstead) is first mentioned in Epfenbach as early as 1476. The predecessor building did not survive the Thirty Years' War; the present four-story half-timbered house in the village center next to the town hall was built in 1718, as a carved date on a corner post proves. It is owned by the municipality and is a listed monument.
The collection goes back to Helmut Förster, who came to Epfenbach after the Second World War and, from 1965, with a working group saved old tools, furniture and documents from the village from being thrown away. In 1975 this became the Verein für Heimatpflege Epfenbach (local heritage association), which has run the museum on a volunteer basis to this day. At first the items were housed in the old Protestant schoolhouse.
After the renovation of the Fronhof, the municipality handed the building over to the association on June 3, 1989. Since then the exhibition has been spread over four floors as well as the barn, smithy and cider cellar, transporting visitors to village life around 1900: with a parlor, kitchen and bedroom on the ground floor and collections on crafts, toys and food storage on the upper floors. In 1990 the house received the award "Vorbildliches Heimatmuseum" (Exemplary Local History Museum) at the Baden-Württemberg Heimattag.
