Regional museum in the old granary on the Springe Burghof: Earth history, town history, crafts, fashion, and agricultural technology of the Deister region.
Over het museum
The association Museum auf dem Burghof was founded in 1966 and opened the museum three years later. It has run the museum on a volunteer basis ever since, while the buildings belong to the town of Springe. The site is where the Counts of Hallermunt built a moated castle in the Middle Ages; later a state domain was established here.
The exhibition spaces are the granary and the carriage house of this domain, which offer about 2,000 square meters on three floors. The tour runs from fossils of Earth history through finds from prehistory and early history, abandoned villages, and remains of the Hallermunt castle, to the history of the farming town of Springe and the places in the former district.
Numerous recreated workshops – a smithy, saddlery, carpentry shop, pottery – as well as living rooms from the Biedermeier period to the 1950s, textiles and fashion, a classroom, and a toy section show the everyday life of earlier generations. The carriage house holds an extensive collection of agricultural machinery. Since the postwar period, the Heimatstube (local heritage room) of the expellees from Militsch-Trachenberg has also had a permanent place in the museum. In addition, with lectures, exhibitions, and concerts, the museum is a cultural meeting place for the town.
