Museum Ravensburger

Hands-on museum of the game publisher Ravensburger in its former headquarters in the old town – all about games, puzzles, and children's books.

OpeningstijdenToegang vanaf € 13,50 Deels toegankelijk

Over het museum

The building at Marktstraße 26 dates back to 1416, when the merchant family Möttelin expanded their residence here. It then changed hands several times among patrician families. From 1737, Franz Joseph von Gerer, later mayor, had stately rooms furnished; a ceiling painting of the four cardinal virtues has been preserved on the second floor. Elaborate facade painting was added in 1788.

In 1896 the building became the seat of Otto Maier's publishing house, from which the Ravensburger publishing company emerged. The entire company worked here until game production moved out in 1962; the book publishing division left the original headquarters in 2005.

After renovation from 2007 to 2010, the Museum Ravensburger opened in May 2010 on about 1,000 square meters across three floors. Instead of display cases, it relies on hands-on stations: visitors learn how a game or puzzle is made, try out classics, and discover the connection between the company's founder and the educational ideas of Friedrich Fröbel. Visitor numbers rose from fewer than 24,000 in the opening year to about 48,000 in 2023. The museum is operated by Ravensburger Freizeit und Promotion GmbH.
