NANO Science Center
Hands-on science center in downtown Potsdam: more than 80 interactive exhibits make natural phenomena tangible for children and families.
Over het museum
The idea came in 2004 from a group of Potsdam parents who wanted to give their city a place where children could experiment through play. They founded the association Exploratorium Potsdam and built the first stations themselves. After an initial fall show at Potsdam Hauptbahnhof in 2005, the project moved into a large hall in Babelsberg in 2006; Filmpark Babelsberg later became a co-owner.
In 2011 the center took the name Extavium. After leaving the Caligarihalle at the Filmpark, it moved downtown to its current canal-side location in August 2015. Since May 2020 it has belonged to the nonprofit educational organization Die Kinderwelt gGmbH.
In April 2024 the Extavium was given a new content and educational concept and has been called NANO Science Center ever since. On a good 400 square meters, more than 80 exhibits invite visitors to try things out – from a spaceship simulator and experiments with light and air pressure to a mouse maze. Tutors accompany visits, perform demonstration experiments, and offer courses for daycare centers, after-school programs, and schools; with “NANO mobil,” experiments also travel to institutions on site.
