The Dutch photographer shows people from all over the world with their vehicles against a white background – 37 photographs, including three life-size prints, in the gallery of Hall III.
Over het museum
The Verkehrszentrum is a branch of the Deutsches Museum, located by the Bavariapark on the Theresienhöhe. Its buildings are the three exhibition halls designed by Wilhelm Bertsch in 1907, which opened in 1908 as the core of a new municipal exhibition park. They hosted trade shows, major transport exhibitions, concerts, and even bicycle races; from 1964, Messe München operated the steadily growing grounds.
After the trade fair moved to Riem, the last fair on the Theresienhöhe took place in 1998. The site was redeveloped into a residential neighborhood, and only the three historic halls remained standing. The Deutsches Museum applied to take them over in order to display its land and rail vehicles here. The reinforced-concrete Hall III opened in 2003 as the first construction phase; Halls I and II, which were painstakingly stripped back to their structural frames, followed by 2006, and the round entrance building in 2011.
Between 2002 and 2006, around 150 cars, commercial vehicles, and rail vehicles plus some 140 motorcycles and bicycles moved here from storage depots and the main museum on the Museumsinsel – some locomotives traveling at night on special transporters. Today the permanent exhibitions "Stadtverkehr" (Urban Transport), "Reisen" (Travel), and "Mobilität und Technik" (Mobility and Technology) cover around 12,000 square meters. They are complemented by a children's area, daily demonstrations, and regularly changing special exhibitions.
