Over het museum

Neudorf in the eastern Franconian Forest was a weavers' village in the 19th century: around 1850, among 44 households there were 16 weaver families, plus farmers who wove as a sideline and weavers without a house of their own. The Weberhausmuseum (weaver's house museum) on the edge of the village recalls this craft and the modest living conditions of hand weavers.

The listed, single-story combined house and stable with a gable roof dates from the late 18th century and is one of the few thatched houses in the district of Hof. Living quarters and stables for small livestock lay under one roof; the furnishings include a black kitchen (Schwarze Küche, a kitchen without a chimney) and an attached baking oven, and in front of the house stands a covered draw well.

The last resident was the weaver Karl Wolfrum (1879–1964). The stove, loom, furniture and photographs come mostly from his family's possessions, so the house is largely furnished as it was in his lifetime. After the restoration, which the then district of Naila promoted, the museum was inaugurated in November 1971; in 1973 a local association for village beautification and monument preservation took over its management. Together with the Textile Museum in nearby Helmbrechts, the small house is one of the places where the history of weaving in the Franconian Forest can be traced.
