About us & data sources
MuseumsAtlas is an independent museum guide. Our goal is a complete, up-to-date and accessible overview of museums around the world.
Why we built MuseumsAtlas
Museums open doors to education, art and culture – for everyone. Yet a visit often fails at the planning stage: When is it open, what does it cost, can I get in with a wheelchair, is it right for our kids? The answers are scattered across many websites or missing altogether.
MuseumsAtlas brings them together in one place. Two groups matter most to us: people with disabilities, for whom we record accessibility in detail – step-free entrances, elevators, accessible restrooms, accessible parking, offers in sign language, easy-to-read language or with audio description, and free admission for companions. And children and families, for whom we show whether a museum is family-friendly, from what age it is worth a visit, whether it works with a stroller and what family tickets cost.
Our goal: no one should miss out on a museum visit because information is missing. That is why MuseumsAtlas is free and independent.
Current data
We currently feature 3,157 fully researched museums. We only publish a museum once its opening hours, prices, accessibility and family offers have been checked – more are added all the time.
Museum information is researched in German from the museums’ own sources. The English texts are translations; if in doubt, the German version applies.
