About the museum

The Museum der Illusionen Wien opened on July 14, 2017 and is a branch of an international museum chain built around optical illusions and sensory perception. It is on the first floor of a Baroque palais in the pedestrian zone of the inner city, a few steps from the Herrengasse U-Bahn station.

Instead of classic display cases, the museum relies on participation: visitors enter twisted rooms, walk through a vortex tunnel, watch people seem to shrink or grow in the Ames room, and learn from holograms and images how easily the eye can be fooled. Photography is expressly welcome, and many stations are built for souvenir photos.

The museum was recently expanded and redesigned; according to its own information, its area has doubled, and several new large illusion rooms have been added. Besides regular visits, there are offers for school classes, children's birthday parties, groups and company events.
