About the museum

The Centrum Ronde van Vlaanderen opened on 25 February 2003 on the initiative of the province of East Flanders as an interactive visitor and experience centre around the classic cycle race Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders). It is located on the Markt in Oudenaarde, close to the finish of the race.

The centre tells the story of the Ronde through sound and image fragments from old radio and television reports, and with an exhibition on the highlights of the race. Visitors can also ride a cobblestone bike or a climbing bike themselves, and step into the shoes of cyclist Paul Deman with a virtual reality experience. The centre goes beyond the Ronde alone and also pays attention to cycling in general. Temporary exhibitions each highlight a different theme, such as this year the life of Johan Museeuw and the women’s team SD Worx.

Besides an exhibition, the centre is also a base for cyclists: there is a brasserie (Peloton Café), a shop (Rondeshop), bike hire, guided tours with a guide or a former professional, and meeting rooms. The signposted loops of the Ronde van Vlaanderen route start at the centre. The current building is intended in time to move to the Abbey of Maagdendale, where a new cycling hub will be established.
