Clockarium

Art Deco faience clock museum in Schaerbeek: more than a thousand fireplace garnitures in a house from 1935; guided tour on the second Sunday of the month.

Opening hoursAdmission €9

About the museum

The Clockarium was founded in 1999 by Jacques de Selliers. It is dedicated to faience fireplace garnitures from the Art Deco period, which between the two world wars became the first clock affordable on any budget and decorated the modest interiors of Belgium and northern France. These clocks, often whimsical, are mainly of Belgian, French and Czech origin.

The museum is housed in a terraced Art Deco house built in 1935 by the architect G. Bossuyt, at the entrance to Brussels, on the boulevard Auguste Reyers. Over three floors, the visit presents a selection of more than a thousand garnitures from the collections: French and Eastern European clocks on the first floor, Belgian clocks on the second, pieces of other origins and an explanation of manufacturing techniques on the third, as well as two rooms devoted to clocks from the 1950s to the present day.

The museum is run by a non-profit association and deals only with 20th-century faience clocks. The first-floor rooms can also be rented for receptions and meetings.
