About the museum
The Frietmuseum Brussels is located in the historic centre of Brussels, on rue de l'Étuve, a few steps from the Grand-Place. It offers a visit of about 900 m² devoted to the Belgian fry and its main ingredient, the potato.
The route traces more than 8,000 years of history, from potato cultivation in the Andes to the arrival of the fry in Belgian fry shops. It brings together more than 1,600 objects: old posters, fry-shop equipment, films and testimonies from frituristes (fry cooks), supplemented by interactive kiosks, quizzes and sensory games.
The museum also addresses the myth of the origins of the Belgian fry, the choice of potato variety, cutting, cooking fat and double frying. The visit ends with a demonstration of frying by a frituriste and the tasting of a cone of fries with several sauces. The museum is the Brussels version of the Frietmuseum in Bruges and stands opposite the Choco-Story Brussels, with which it offers a combined ticket.
