About the museum
MoMuse, the municipal museum of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, has been open to the public since 2017. In its rooms, about 1,000 objects and images tell the story of the municipality, its residents and their ways of life.
The museum occupies the listed building of the former Academy of Drawing and Visual Arts, where drawing and other artistic disciplines have been taught since 1880. It sits at the heart of a municipal cultural hub, together with the Micro-Folie Molenbeek and the ZEP library.
The collection brings together everyday objects, works of art, photographs, historical documents and sometimes unexpected pieces. It can be explored in six thematic zones: earth and water, people, living and building, working and transport, going to school, and living together. The museum also invites residents to tell their stories, and to lend or donate their memories, objects and documents.
