About the museum
The Musée du Malgré-Tout is located in Treignes, in the municipality of Viroinval (province of Namur). It is run by the non-profit association Cedarc (Centre d'Études et de Documentation Archéologiques), founded in 1985, which is its scientific driving force: it studies, preserves and promotes the prehistoric and Gallo-Roman archaeological heritage of the region.
Cedarc also publishes research papers and exhibition catalogues, and manages one of the richest archaeological libraries in the country. The museum's collections have been enlarged through deposits and donations from private individuals and local associations; the former casting workshop has made it possible to reproduce many exceptional pieces.
The museum is one of the category A museums recognised in Wallonia and received the Prix des musées and the Prix du public de Wallonie in 2008. Every Pentecost weekend since 1994 it has hosted the Fête de l'Archéologie. In 2026 it obtained the label “approuvé par et pour les enfants” (“approved by and for children”).
