About the museum
The Dům fotografie in Revoluční Street in Staré Město grew out of the idea of the Pražský dům fotografie (Prague House of Photography). Its origins go back to 1989, when photographers from the association Aktiv volné fotografie were looking for space for their exhibitions. Later the foundation Pražský dům fotografie was established, and in 2005 a public benefit company of the same name. Preparation of the building at Revoluční 5 began in 2002.
The reconstruction dragged on, and in 2010 the council of the capital city of Prague transferred the non-residential spaces in the house to the Prague City Gallery. The gallery received CZK 5 million from the city to complete the air conditioning and fit out all the spaces. The Dům fotografie opened to the public at the end of 2013. Visitors enter through a passage between Revoluční and Benediktská streets, and climb stairs to the galleries on the mezzanine and first floor.
