About the museum

The Esbjerg Spejdermuseum is run by an association in which scouts and guides from the four long-established Danish organizations have joined together: KFUM-Spejderne, KFUK-Spejderne, Det Danske Spejderkorps, and Det Danske Pigespejderkorps. The association collects, registers, and displays objects connected with the scouting movement and documents its history from its beginnings in 1907 to the present.

The collection includes uniforms, equipment, badges and proficiency badges, postcards and stamps with scouting motifs, as well as posters and figurines. By its own account, with around 2400 registered titles the museum has the largest collection of scouting literature in West Jutland, plus more than 500 troop diaries, most of them from the Esbjerg region.

The exhibition is located in the basement of the Spangsbjergskolen in Esbjerg. Visitors can look at old equipment and badges there, leaf through historical diaries, try out former scouting activities, and experience what a troop meeting around 1960 was like. Scout groups receive support with their own exhibitions. On its website, the association also provides material on the history of the individual organizations, on world jamborees, and on topics such as the 1933 uniform ban or scouting work among German refugees in the Oksbøl camp after 1945.
