About the museum

The Halle du Verre is housed in the former art glassworks of Claret, a village that hosted noble glassmakers (gentilshommes verriers) for nearly five centuries. The project was launched in 2009 by the Communauté de communes de l'Orthus to develop local tourism, and the facility was inaugurated in April 2009. In 2010, following a merger of communities of communes, it came under the responsibility of the Communauté de communes du Grand Pic Saint-Loup.

The permanent route presents the history of glass and its techniques from Antiquity to the present day, as well as the era of the noble glassmakers, from the Middle Ages to the Revolution. The site also has a glassblower's demonstration workshop, a craft shop and temporary exhibitions, and promotes contemporary glass.

The site is closed to the public in 2026 for major rehabilitation works intended to improve visitor reception. Reopening is announced for mid-June 2027.
