Temporarily closed (expected until 2026). The museum is under construction: the town is preparing a complete overhaul of the route and renovation of the building, with completion announced for 2026. No reopening date has been published.

About the museum

The Musée de la Cité, formerly called the Musée de l'Auditoire, is located in the heart of the medieval Cité of Sainte-Suzanne. It occupies a 16th-century house, a former courthouse (auditoire de justice). The Association des amis de Sainte-Suzanne created it in 1973 and gave it to the town in 2011. The town has managed it directly since 2016.

The route covered more than three thousand years of the town's history across nine rooms on three levels: the Celtic period, William the Conqueror's siege of the town in the 11th century, the Hundred Years' War, the Revolution, and industrial and craft life. Notable pieces include a suit of armor from 1410–1420, described as the oldest surviving in France, as well as models, authentic weapons and archive documents.

In 2022, elected officials decided on a complete overhaul of the route and renovation of the building. The project provides for a new reception area for visitors with reduced mobility, school groups and cycle tourists, a heritage classroom, and cultural activities throughout the year. The energy renovation and upgrades to accessibility and safety standards are part of the project. The town announces that the works will be completed in 2026.
