About the museum

The Musée de la Moto in Marseille is housed in a former flour mill in the Merlan district. It is part of the network of Marseille city museums.

The collection traces the history of the motorcycle from its origins in 1885 to the present day. More than 250 machines are displayed in chronological order across four levels, with numerous displays and staging that show technical and design developments over a century.

Rare pieces include a 1865 Vélo Michaud, an MGC prototype from 1935 to 1938, a series of Moto Guzzi motorcycles, military motorcycles and sidecars from the Second World War, the unique Sunbeam/Porsche prototype, a Triton “Ace Café” and a 1904 Motosacoche with a Dufaux engine, kept in its original condition. The ground floor houses a library of more than 2,000 specialist magazines from 1930 to 1990, which can be consulted on site.
