About the museum

The Musée de Quiberon, subtitled “Entre terre et mer” (“Between land and sea”), occupies a 17th-century house a few dozen meters from the church of Quiberon. It is run by the association Culture et Patrimoine de la presqu'île de Quiberon and spreads over three exhibition floors.

The first floor is devoted to prehistory and the history of the peninsula, to Quiberon during the 1914–1918 war, to the 1833 land register and its place names, and to the Breton language of Quiberon. The second floor presents scenes of family life in Quiberon around 1890 and costumes. The third floor is dedicated to maritime trades, shipwreck stories and sea life in the early 20th century.

Other themes include the Affaire de Quiberon of 1795, the liberation of the peninsula in May 1945, the life of cyclist Louison Bobet, and wreck diving. A recent exhibition covers the history of sea rescue, including a resuscitation kit for victims of near-drowning dating from 1878.
