About the museum

The museum is housed in the former town hall-school of Cuisiat, inaugurated on June 18, 1871. The creation of a new school complex in Treffort-Cuisiat led to the closure of this school in 1985. The association Amis de Treffort-Cuisiat de Bresse et du Revermont, supported by the département and the commune, then made it possible to create the museum, which opened in 1986. Since 2026, the commune of Val-Revermont has managed the museum; the départemental collections remain on deposit there.

The itinerary presents the Revermont, a land once covered with vineyards and rich in clay for the Meillonnas faience. The boys’ classroom has been faithfully reconstructed to show the school of the Jules Ferry era, and the upper floor displays toys and class and wedding photographs from 1885 to 1939. The Meillonnas Manufactory, founded in 1760, has its own room, and the “Le revers du mont” area presents the resources and know-how of the region.

The museum has a 70 m² area for children aged 0 to 10, the Jeunes Pousses, and a heritage kitchen garden and orchard where more than 650 local or forgotten varieties are grown. A botanical trail extends the visit outdoors.
