About the museum
The Musée Jules-Verne opened in 1978, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the writer’s birth in Nantes. It occupies a 19th-century bourgeois house overlooking the Loire, the river that fed the imagination of the author of the Voyages extraordinaires.
The route presents the life and work of Jules Verne, regarded as one of the fathers of science fiction and popular culture. Visitors can see books, manuscripts, documents, illustrations, posters, objects, models, contemporary creations and multimedia content. The drafts of about a hundred works, more than 20,000 leaves in all, have been digitised and can be consulted online.
New temporary exhibitions are regularly integrated into the permanent display. The terrace offers a view of the Loire and, from June to September, the garden is open to the public. The museum received the Qualité Tourisme label in 2014, renewed in 2017. The Cité des imaginaires project is announced for late 2028 in the former CAP44 building.
