About the museum
Mado Robin, soprano at the Paris Opera and the Opéra-Comique, born in Yzeures in 1918, is considered to have had the highest voice in the world. Before the museum opened, some of the singer’s memorabilia were displayed on the third floor of the social centre, in a small reconstructed opera box with sound and light effects.
Following the donation of personal belongings by the singer’s family, the town council decided to create a museum worthy of this figure of the opera. It opened on December 21, 2008, on Place François-Mitterrand, in a building it shares with the municipal library; its entrance faces Rue Pasteur.
The route brings together display cases with objects, photos, posters and scores, as well as stage costumes presented in reconstructed sets from her major roles. A reconstructed dressing room with sound is included, and a small auditorium shows audiovisual documents, performances and interviews. In front of the museum, a bust of the singer, a work by Paulette Richon and Jacques Walter, pays tribute to her. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, for example of watercolours or photographs.
