About the museum
Musée Maurepas is the second site of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, after the historic site on Quai Zola. It opened on February 1, 2025, in the Maurepas district in the north-east of the city, which was built between the 1950s and the 1970s. Its opening is part of an urban renewal programme run by the City of Rennes and the French state.
The museum occupies about 400 m² at the foot of a 1960s apartment block that residents call “La Banane”, near the Gros-Chêne metro station. It was designed by the Titan agency for the social housing provider Archipel Habitat. The artist Isabelle Cornaro created the interior fittings (plinths, curtains) and five cast-concrete display-window sculptures that line Boulevard Emmanuel-Mounier.
Admission is completely free. Each year, the museum presents two temporary exhibitions of older and contemporary works from its collections; one of them is developed together with residents of the district. A toy library and a play area for young children, run by the community centre, complete the site.
