About the museum
The museum occupies the church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges, built in 1617 by Catherine de Gonzague, Duchess of Longueville, in the heart of the Parc des Capucins. This convent church was abandoned by the monks during the Revolution, after which the municipal museum moved in.
The site houses a shell grotto with religious decoration, a funerary chapel of Italian inspiration created in the 17th century. It is considered unique and was selected in 2019 by the Fondation du Patrimoine for the Mission Bern. The site has been listed as a historic monument since 1930.
The collections tell the story of Coulommiers from prehistory to the present day; among the important pieces are the Coronelli globes, currently under restoration. The museum also used to host lectures and temporary exhibitions.
The city is restoring the church, with a new plan for presenting the collections and a planetarium, while the intercommunal authority is converting the buildings of the neighboring convent to create the Maison des Arts et du Brie. The museum has been closed since September 2023 for the entire duration of the works.
