About the museum
The Musée provençal des transports urbains et régionaux is housed in the disused La Barque station in the commune of Fuveau. This former junction station linked the lines from Carnoules to Gardanne and from Aubagne to La Barque. The museum uses the old goods shed. It was founded in the early 1970s by an enthusiast and closed in 2002, on his death. It reopened in 2004 thanks to the association Conservatoire provençal du patrimoine de véhicules anciens.
The collection brings together trams from the city of Marseille and trolleybuses from the region, including a unique intercity trolleybus that once ran the Aix–Marseille link. There are also buses, locomotives, wagons and mining equipment. The association maintains and restores its vehicles: a Chausson bus has returned to the road after 38 years at a standstill.
The museum also offers a ride of about forty minutes on the Petit train de Sainte-Victoire, on a 60 cm gauge track, with views of the mountain loved by Cézanne. On the third Sunday of each month, enthusiasts run miniature live-steam trains.
