About the museum
The Musée vivant du fromage is run by Paroles de Fromagers, a company founded at the end of 2013 by Pierre Brisson. The company began by offering professional training and cheese-making courses for the public and tourists. In 2017 it opened a large educational space in the 10th arrondissement, devoted to passing on cheese-making know-how and selling dairy products, and then a second shop in the 15th arrondissement.
The museum is located on rue Saint-Louis en l'Île, in the 4th arrondissement. It combines a modern exhibition area on cheese and the regions of France, teaching rooms for school groups, workshops and event spaces, a dairy and cheese-making workshop where cheese is made every day, a traditional crèmerie-fromagerie, and a souvenir shop. The venue also has a 17th-century vaulted cellar, the Cave Saint-Louis.
The visit follows three stages: an introduction to cheese culture and heritage, the live making of a cheese by a cheesemaker, and an immersive tasting of four cheeses guided by a cheesemaker. The route is also aimed at people considering a career change into cheese-related professions.
