About the museum

In the 1970s, Lucie Godin gathered objects related to weddings: bridal globes and orange-blossom crowns. With her husband’s help, she bought two chaumières on the island of Fédrun in 1973, one of which served as a museum. In 1998, the Parc naturel régional de Brière acquired the whole property. This met the collector’s wish to keep her collection together rather than scatter it. After upgrades to meet the applicable standards from 1998 to 2000, the museum was fully renovated in 2004.

The Maison de la Mariée holds the “Musée de France” label. It tells the story of the bridal crown, the bridal globe and family memories: from the wax-flower workshops of Saint-Joachim to the various crown fashions and then to bridal globes. With around 200 globes, it has the largest public collection, a selection of which is on display. This fashion survived both World Wars and lasted until the mid-20th century.

The guided tour “Île était une fois Fédrun” links the museum with the Chaumière Briéronne, which shows the traditional interior of Brière houses. It starts from the Maison du Parc de Fédrun, about 400 meters away.
