About the museum
The Palais de l’Univers et des Sciences, also known as Le PLUS, is a centre for scientific, technical and industrial culture in Cappelle-la-Grande, near Dunkirk. It aims to make science accessible in a playful way, through guided activities, workshops, storytelling, shows, planetarium films, meetings and lectures.
The building has three floors. The first floor (ground floor in French) houses the temporary exhibition, La Bulle (a space for the youngest visitors) and the group workshops. The permanent exhibition “Voyage au centre de l’Univers” occupies 1,500 m² on the second floor and covers the Big Bang and the evolution of life and species. The planetarium is on the third floor.
The planetarium has 117 seats and uses a very high-definition projection system that covers the entire dome without 3D glasses. About a dozen 360° films are renewed regularly. Each year the centre organises, among other events, the Fête de la science (Science Festival) in October and Mathematics Week in March.
