About the museum
The Breslauer Sammlung in Köln was established in 1950 through a partnership between the city of Köln and expelled residents of Breslau. It is run by the Bundesvereinigung der Breslauer e. V. Its foundation is the estate of the Breslau dialect poet Karl von Holtei, after whom the affiliated archive and the Schlesische Bibliothek are also named.
The collection documents the art, culture and urban history of Breslau as well as the history of Silesia. On display are, among other things, city views in paintings, prints and large photographs, glassware, traditional costumes, coins and medals, Silesian textiles and ceramics, a replica of the "Schöne Madonna" of Breslau, and a bell from the Breslau firm Robert Latowski. A specialist library with maps covers Breslau, Silesia, and flight and expulsion.
The premises also host exhibitions, lectures and events on Breslau's past and present. The collection maintains contacts with museums in Wrocław, with the Museum Haus Schlesien and with the Schlesisches Museum zu Görlitz.
