Temporarily closedAdmission from €6
Temporarily closed (expected until 2028). Closed since 2024 for heritage-sensitive repairs and redesign; according to the Museen der Stadt Dresden, reopening is planned for fall 2028. Until then, concerts take place in the Kügelgenhaus.

About the museum

Built in 1664/65, the vintner's house in Hosterwitz at the foot of the Dresden Elbe slopes was the retreat of Dresden court Kapellmeister Carl Maria von Weber and his family in the summers of 1818/19 and from 1822 to 1824. Here he found peace to compose, hiked into the Keppgrund valley and as far as Saxon Switzerland, and received guests such as Ludwig Tieck, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Heinrich Marschner and the singer Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient.

As early as 1836, the singer and Weber admirer Friedrich Wilhelm Jähns set up a first memorial with a guest book in the house, and in 1865 he had a commemorative plaque installed. The property subsequently changed hands several times and from 1923 to 1945 belonged to the Landesverein Sächsischer Heimatschutz (Saxon heritage association).

In 1948 an official memorial was established on the first floor. After the death of Weber's great-granddaughter Mathilde von Weber, the museum opened with a permanent exhibition in 1957; for the 150th anniversary of the composer's death, the house was renovated between 1973 and 1976. Since 2005 it has been part of the Museen der Stadt Dresden (Dresden City Museums) group.

The originally preserved rooms with furniture, pictures and documents from Weber's time, together with the garden, most recently also served as a setting for concerts, readings and weddings. In 2024 the museum closed for heritage-sensitive repairs and redesign; reopening is scheduled for fall 2028. Until then, concerts take place in the Kügelgenhaus; online, a 3D tour and the "Weber digital" portal offer insights.
