Feuerwehrmuseum Berlin

The Berlin Fire Brigade's museum at the Tegel fire station, with life-size scenes on firefighting, emergency medical services, and city history.

Opening hoursAdmission from €5 Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

The collection dates back to 1911, when senior building official Hans Scheele set up a historical teaching display in Charlottenburg's main fire station. Its purpose was to teach new firefighters about the traditions of Germany's oldest professional fire brigade and the development of firefighting and rescue services. In 1922 the collection passed to the City of Berlin, and from 1927 it was also open to the public for several years at the Suarezstraße fire station.

After World War II the exhibition moved several times, including to the Schöneberg and Wannsee fire stations. Since 1983 it has been housed on the upper floor of the Tegel fire station, where it has been regularly open to all visitors ever since. The museum is run by the Berliner Feuerwehr (Berlin Fire Brigade) and supported by the volunteer friends' association Förderverein Feuerwehrmuseum Berlin e. V.

The exhibition spans the period from the founding of the Berlin Fire Brigade in 1851 to the present day. Life-size displays, such as a horse-drawn team with a fire pump from 1909 or a re-created landscape of World War II rubble, along with videos, communications equipment, and historic fire alarm boxes, bring the work of emergency responders to life. The holdings also include a specialist library, a photo archive, and around 30 historic vehicles, which are currently spread across fire stations and depots due to lack of space. Since March 2026 the museum has been certified as a fire brigade museum by CTIF, the international fire service association.
