About the museum
The Flößermuseum (rafting museum) grew out of a local heritage room that had been open to the public in the town hall of Unterreichenbach since 1977. In 1999 it moved to the basement of the Tannberg School. After a complete redesign, the museum was reopened with a ceremony on July 16, 2011.
The focus is on rafting, which was once of great economic importance to the village: the rich timber of the Northern Black Forest was floated via the Nagold, Enz, Neckar and Rhine as far as the Netherlands. With the construction of the Nagold Valley Railway from 1868 to 1874 and the expansion of the state road from Calw to Pforzheim, transport shifted to rail and road; in 1911, the last raft went down the Nagold.
Raft models, pictures, tools and originals from earlier times convey life at the time. A detailed model of the old Unterreichenbach railway station shows the transition from rafts to trains, and the museum also looks at the history of the village.
