About the museum
The Haus Beda was built with funds from the Dr.-Hanns-Simon-Stiftung and opened in Bitburg in 1976; its name goes back to the Celtic-Roman name of the town. The museum for Fritz von Wille (1860–1941), a landscape painter of the Düsseldorf School who repeatedly made the Eifel his subject, is on the third floor.
Two years after the house opened, the painter's granddaughter placed thirty paintings from family property on long-term loan to the founder; they became the core of the collection. Hanns Simon later acquired further works from his private means and gave them to his foundation. Today the museum displays more than 80 exhibits and therefore holds the largest painting collection by the artist.
Three generations of the family are represented: court painter August von Wille with his wife Clara, Fritz von Wille himself and his son Otto. The route follows the development from his early works through his most productive phase around 1908 to the darker paintings after the outbreak of World War I. An easel, a paint palette and family photos complement the paintings.
