About the museum

The Halloren chocolate factory in Halle dates back to 1804 and is considered the oldest chocolate factory still operating in Germany. From 1879 the company was owned by the David family. In 1952 the Halloren-Kugeln (chocolate balls) came onto the market; they remain the company's best-known product to this day.

The chocolate museum opened in 2002 on the company grounds on Delitzscher Straße and was expanded several times in the years that followed. In 2004 a chocolate room was added, its furnishings made from around one and a half tons of chocolate; later additions included a chocolate model of Halle's town hall and a relief of the city skyline.

Today the site presents itself as the Halloren Erlebniswelt (Halloren experience world): in addition to the exhibition on more than 200 years of company and chocolate history, visitors can follow the path from cocoa bean to bar at a bean-to-bar station, watch figures and specialties being made by hand in the see-through manufactory, and create their own pralines or bars in the chocolate workshop. A café, an ice cream bar, and a factory outlet round out the offerings.
