About the museum
The bake house on the village square of Flierich is a narrow half-timbered building from around 1900. It originally stood elsewhere and was to be demolished; the Heimatverein Kerspell Fle-ik rescued it, took it down, and rebuilt it on the village square. The association emerged in 1987 from the village competition initiative "Unser Dorf soll schöner werden" (Our village should become more beautiful), and over the following two years it had the bake house built.
To this day, it is the center of the association's activities. At set times, bread is baked in the wood-fired oven, and in front of the house the Advent market (since 1990) and the maypole raising (since 1991) take place. The building also serves as the wedding venue of the municipality of Bönen.
Upstairs, a small collection displays objects from earlier village life and a few documents on the history of Flierich. The bake house lies in the historic center of the Golddorf, with its medieval church and half-timbered houses all around, and is part of the Route of Industrial Culture.
The bake house is thus not only an exhibition space but also a lively village meeting place, where the association keeps traditions alive and makes history tangible for visitors.
