About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Blankenloch is housed in the Kerns-Max-Haus on Hauptstraße, one of the oldest buildings in the Stutensee district. The half-timbered house was built in 1603 and probably belonged to the former Seyfriedshof; experts consider it possible that a bailiff (Vogt) once lived there. It takes its name from Max Kern, the last private owner before the house passed to the municipality. After World War II it provided housing for expellees; later the social services station used the rooms.
The Heimat- und Museumsverein Blankenloch/Büchig took over operations and had the house renovated in 2008 with a great deal of volunteer work, including an insulated roof, new dormers, and freshly painted half-timbering.
The local history collection covers farm and household equipment, evidence of various crafts, and old agricultural machines. Because of extensive renovation work, it cannot currently be shown permanently. Instead, the association opens the house on select days; then the historic Gutenberg printing room, a museum café, and smaller exhibitions are accessible.
