About the museum

The museum is housed in the Haus der Stadtgeschichte, whose entrance is hidden on Eckgasse. It is run by the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Heusenstamm together with the town and covers around 100 square meters. The ground floor hosts events and changing exhibitions; the permanent exhibition on local history is on the second floor.

The exhibition "800 Jahre Heusenstamm" follows the town's history in eleven color-coded sections, from its first mention in 1211 to the present. It covers, among other things, the lords of Heusenstamm, the Patershausen monastery, the Counts of Schönborn with their palace and Baroque garden, Jewish life in the town, the 19th century, the World Wars and National Socialism, and the new beginning after 1945. A village model from 1843 illustrates the change from village to town, and in a play corner children can build a castle.

Since May 2015 the exhibition "Kraft des Glaubens" (The Power of Faith) has complemented the house. It shows surviving religious artifacts from 800 years of Heusenstamm history. Additional information can be accessed via tablets, whose content was compiled by members of the five Christian congregations of the town and of the history association.
