About the museum
Collector Franz Weiß spent decades assembling old rural and craft heritage. To house it, he bought a very old farmhouse with barn on Hohenburger Straße in Kastl, whose origins go back to the 14th century, and restored it in keeping with its style.
After Franz Weiß died in 2004, his wife Anna Maria Weiß and his daughter Birgitta Englhard continued to run the museum as a private museum.
The barn mainly shows tools and implements of farmers and village craftsmen. In the house there are Upper Palatinate costumes, religious folk art, a living room, a sleeping chamber, a Rußkuchl (soot-blackened kitchen) and flax processing, as well as workshops of a shoemaker, tailor, potter and blacksmith.
