About the museum
The museum was prompted by a farmer from Götemitz on Rügen, whose farm held an almost complete collection of the tools and machines used on a well-run medium-sized family farm. Together with the heirs of the farm, the municipality of Rambin and the Amt Südwest-Rügen (administrative office), the idea arose of making this collection publicly accessible. Planned buildings on the Plüggentin castle grounds were lost in a fire in February 1993.
On January 30, 1995, nine members founded the Verein zur Förderung der historischen Stätten in Rambin und Umgebung (association for the promotion of historic sites in Rambin and surroundings), from which today's Förderverein Heimatmuseum Rambin emerged. The association opened the museum in May 2000. It uses a former BHG agricultural cooperative warehouse, a barn, a clay baking oven, a horizontal frame saw and a large festival meadow, which the municipality of Rambin leases to the association.
The exhibition, titled "Leben und Arbeit auf dem Lande", shows, among other things, farm machinery from the 1930s from two Rügen farms, woodworking and metalworking tools, a shoemaker's workshop from Rambin, the collection of a local electrician, and a horizontal frame saw more than 160 years old that still works. Charts and pictures document the development of the municipality. The barn serves as an event venue, for example for a spring festival and the harvest thanksgiving and market day in September.
