About the museum
The Heimatstube „Altes Frauenwald“ offers an insight into the way of life of people in Frauenwald in earlier times. On display are everyday objects, household furnishings, tools and agricultural implements, as well as a model of a glassblowers' home workshop. The oldest piece with a verifiable date comes from the year 1650.
Visitors can also see how wooden water pipes were made on the drilling bench, and learn about products of the industries based in the village, some with original work books. Photos, books and handwritten records invite browsing. Frauenwald lies on the Rennsteig and belongs to the town of Ilmenau. The Heimatstube has since moved to Nordstraße 96, where the tourist information office is also located; the furnishing there is not yet fully complete, but it can already be visited.
