About the museum
The Bremerhaven Art Association, founded in 1886, has had its own building for temporary exhibitions, the Kunsthalle, since 1964. The building was designed by the architect Gerhard Müller-Menckens (1917–2007); in 1986 a roof extension to a design by Silke and Jürgen Grube was added.
The exhibition rooms are on the first floor and comprise a graphic cabinet, the vestibule and the large hall, together roughly 220 square meters. On the ground floor are the bistro "Caspar David & Co." and the "Kabinett für aktuelle Kunst" (Cabinet for Contemporary Art) as a separate exhibition space.
The Kunsthalle is directly next to the Kunstmuseum Bremerhaven, which the art association also runs; both houses appear together. The Kunsthalle has no permanent exhibition; it is reserved for the changing program. Because of renovation work, it is currently closed to visitors.
