Two-part exhibition by Paweł Freisler and Antje Majewski at Parzelle 3 about the apple as a living being shaped by humans, accompanied by planting events and festivities.
About the museum
In 1991, the city of Dresden established the Kunsthaus as a central venue for international contemporary art. For three decades, it occupied a Baroque townhouse built around 1740 on Rähnitzgasse in the Innere Neustadt district. Without a collection of its own, the institution, which today belongs to the Museen der Stadt Dresden, shows changing exhibitions and initiates art projects in public space, such as the cultural festival "Am Fluss" since 2016, the multilingual traveling library "Babylothek" and the lecture series "Kunstbegriffe".
Since 2021, the Kunsthaus, together with the Ostrale association, has been using the robotron-Kantine on Lingnerallee, built in 1969–1972 as the staff canteen of VEB Robotron and listed as a monument in 2023. Following the city council's 2024 decision to acquire the building and use it as a new home, the Kunsthaus gave up the Rähnitzgasse site; the Haus der Brücke community center opened there in 2025. Renovation of the canteen is planned for 2027–2028 with federal funding; until then, exhibitions take place in the unrenovated building. An oral history project collects memories of the site's history.
Since 2019, the Kunsthaus has also run Parzelle 3 in the Flora I allotment garden colony in Striesen. Permanent garden artworks by Nana Petzet, Fatma Bucak, Olaf Holzapfel, Gabriela Oberkofler and Ulrike Mohr can be seen there, along with changing pavilion exhibitions on the relationship between people and nature.
