About the museum
The Lindenfelser Museum opened in 1979 in the former tithe barn in the town hall courtyard, right by the path up to the castle. Its guiding theme traces Lindenfels’ path from a small Electoral Palatinate district town (Oberamtsstädtchen) to a climatic health resort (heilklimatischer Kurort).
Across four floors, the museum presents collections on town history, folk culture, agriculture, crafts and printing. Among its best-known objects is the Lindenfels stagecoach, which in 2014 became the first item in the Bergstraße district to be named Regional Cultural Heritage. Other items include firefighting equipment, a model of the castle and town, documents, a farmhouse parlor with bedchamber and kitchen, Odenwald traditional costumes, photo documentation and weapons. The first guest room, with a guest book from 1887, can also be seen.
The upper floors contain a museum print shop as well as agricultural equipment and craft workshops that are in working order and are put into operation during the Brauchtumstage (folk custom days) in October. An audio guide on your smartphone leads you to 25 stations. The museum is currently closed for renovation work until an expected spring 2027.
