Industrial history with working steam engines and works by August Gaul and August Peukert in a former power station in Hanau-Großauheim.

While major works by Gaul are on loan to the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt, the museum shows newly acquired works by the sculptor, including smaller versions of his lionesses.
Since 1983, the museum has occupied a former power station with an adjoining bathhouse, built in 1906 for the then independent municipality of Großauheim. Following the reorganization of Hanau's museums, it took over the city's holdings on industrial and everyday history.
At its heart are working steam engines, generators and agricultural machinery, all the way to steam tractors, showing how energy and technology have transformed the region since the arrival of the railroad in the 19th century. The Förderverein Dampfmaschinenmuseum (friends' association of the steam engine museum) sets the machines in motion on special event days.
The museum is also devoted to two artists from Großauheim: the animal sculptor August Gaul (1869–1921) and the painter August Peukert (1912–1986). In 2010/11 the museum was thoroughly revamped; since then, the first floor has been accessible, and a sound installation turns machine noises into music.
